EMC, IBM, Microsoft Develop Content Management Interoperability Services
A partnership of EMC, IBM and Microsoft has developed a specification for
content management interoperability services (CMIS)
that make enterprise content management systems accessible via services and Web
2.0 interfaces. The specification, currently CMIS 0.5, will eventually be
submitted to OASIS for standardization. The specification currently defines a
domain model, Web Service Binding and a REST/ATOM Binding for working with
enterprise content management systems. Alfresco Software, Open Text, Oracle, and
SAP joined the original partners in refining the specification before its
release.
Crosscheck Networks Introduces SOAPSonar v4.0 for SOA Testing
Crosscheck Networks, Inc. announced the release of
SOAPSonar™ v.4.0 with a list of features that includes Schematron
validation, WS-Policy generation and consumption and asynchronous performance
testing. Version 4 includes modules that enable SOA testers to test the quality
of enterprise WSDL descriptions based on a scoring system. The scoring system

interoperability of services.
AVICode Releases Intercept Studio 5.0 for Monitoring .NET Applications
AVICode Intercept Studio 5.0 introduces several new features, including Activity Monitoring
for Business Transactions, Service Level Agreement Monitoring, Incremental Application Dependency Discovery and an Application Monitoring Dashboard. Incremental
Application Dependency Discovery automatically maps the application architecture to identify dependencies on databases and Web services. The dashboard provides metrics
on application load, failures and problems with service providers. Intercept Studio 5.0 also provides a browser for .NET assemblies that identifies classes, methods and
namespaces to be monitored. Version 5.0 includes support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 2008 server, .NET Framework 3.5, LINQ, Windows
Workflow Foundation, WCF, COM+, Sybase and Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC).
Ken North Computing White Paper Examines Best-of-Breed Middleware
A white paper from Ken North Computing discusses the role and importance of data access middleware. "Middleware in Action" is a 90-page report
that describes how
middleware plugs into architectures for distributed applications and services, including SOA and ESB. It explains defining characteristics of best-of-breed data access
middleware, including features for performance and scalability. The report also includes a features checklist for compiling a report card for database drivers and data
providers. Readers can download an executive summary of "Middleware in Action: Industrial Strength Data Access"
that also contains the data access middleware checklist. |

Reshaping and Restructuring XML
Michael M. David, writing for SQLSummit.com, explores two approaches to transforming XML hierarchical data structures. He explains the difference between
restructuring and reshaping XML data, with the latter driven by the semantics of the data structure.
Security Flaws Undermine SOA, Web Services and Networking Infrastructure
Researchers have recently uncovered security vulnerabilities in the OpenSSL toolkit that's deployed on 60% of the web servers on the Internet. The potential problems
include buffer overruns, denial-of-security attacks, forging of digital certificates and compromising of confidential information. The OpenSSL problems follow confirmation the SHA, SHA-1 and MD5 hashes have been broken by cryptography researchers. Ken North discusses
cryptography-related security vulnerabilities, including an RSA attack based on Simple Branch Prediction Analysis, and the effect on
digital certificates used for authentication and secure communications.
