Dean Guida
Dean Guida has managed to stay abreast of software trends for
more than a decade, particularly presentation-layer trends (play
video). Dean is CEO of Infragistics, an independent software
vendor (ISV) that specializes in presentation layer software. Infragistics offers a
suite of visual components for Windows, J2EE, .NET and mobile computing.
Dean is an industry veteran. He was CEO of Protoview, which
became part of Infragistics as the result of a merger with Sheridan Software
Systems. Protoview's screen generator (Protogen) was a favored tool among
Windows developers using Microsoft and Borland compilers. The company followed
that success with a suite of components for Java developers. Space Shuttle
astronauts carried a laptop with a mapping application for emergencies. It was
built with visual components from Dean's company.

Mobility and
Presentation Layer Trends
At the Enterprise Data Forum conference in Philadelphia, Dean
Guida spoke about presentation trends during a panel presentation about the future of software.
Later that day, we interviewed Dean, Bob Bickel of
JBoss, and John Goodson of Data Direct Technologies about software trends.
In this interview, Dean discusses mobility trends and ink for
tablet PCs. He also discusses Windows forms, .NET, and next-generation software
from Microsoft (Longhorn and Avalon).
For Real Player and Windows Media Player, there are two choices
of video program. One program is for modem users, the other is for faster
connections such as ISDN, cable modem and DSL.
