The Apache Software Foundation has
undertaken a project that promises to influence the direction of enterprise
services buses and web services broker technologies. The Synapse proposal
will build on software contributed by Infravio to create a transformation,
management and routing system. It will include a set of components that work
with Apache Axis2, an implementation of the Simple Object Access Protocol
(SOAP).
The baseline software for the Synapse effort is the X-Broker product
donated by Infravio Software. It complies with the WS-Security specification
and supports flexible routing, logging, failover and load balancing for
services.
The intent of the Synapse effort is to implement a distributed services
mediation framework that complies with Web services specifications from
OASIS and the W3C. The Synapse architecture will conform to the
specifications for SOAP, the Web Services Description Language (WSDL),
WS-Addressing, WS-Policy, WS-Security and WS-Reliable Messaging.
One of the project's goals is to be platform- and language-agnostic, with
" first class support for C/C++/COBOL/Java/.NET and other application
platforms."
