The Eclipse Foundation announced a project
proposal for developing a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Tools Platform
(STP). Eclipse is a developer environment that's among the most-downloaded
open source software.
IONA Technologies has joined the Eclipse Foundation to participate as a
Strategic Developer. IONA will donate the code from Artix, its Enterprise
Service Bus (ESB) product, to the Eclipse Foundation and will lead the STP
effort. Infravio, which will soon launch Infravio X-registry Platform 5,
will also be a key participant in the STP project.
The Eclipse SOA Tools Project will build on the product of Eclipse's Data
Tools and Web Tools Platform projects. It will provide tools for developers
creating and consuming services and administrators monitoring services.
Using the Eclipse plugin capability, STP will define extension points that
support open source projects such as Celtix, ServiceMix, and Mule.
